Police have arrested two Indian men who robbed a Vietnamese woman of two mobile phones at knifepoint in Singapore last week.
The two men, aged 39 and 53, intruded in a cubicle of the Skin Beauty salon on MacPherson Road, where the woman was expecting a facial massage at 10.30pm on April 2.
The 35-year-old victim is a friend of a beautician, 32, at the salon whom she visited for a reunion and facial session, the Shin Min Daily News reported.
The 39-year-old man reportedly dashed into the salon when the beautician ducked out to grab a cup of water, leaving her friend waiting in the cubicle. The man then pointed a razor blade at the victim’s neck.
The woman resisted by trying to knock the razor blade away and sustained minor cuts. Her action caused the man to flee, but before leaving, he grabbed two mobile phones from the desk. They had a combined worth of about S$1,000 (US$739).
The armed robber was then seen escaping with the 53-year-old man, who acted as a lookout by staying near the salon door.
The following day, officers from Tanglin Police Division traced the pair and arrested them on Merpati Road.
The 39-year-old man was charged in court on April 5 with armed robbery causing hurt, and his case has been scheduled for mention on April 12. Meanwhile, the 53-year-old man is still being investigated by the police.
If the men are convicted for armed robbery with hurt they could face between 5 to 20 years in jail and at least 12 strokes of the cane.
