More than 100 workers from various industry sectors were praised as model workers by Taiwan’s Yilan County government at a ceremony on Thursday.
Lin Zi-Miao, the magistrate of Yilan County, opened the ceremony at the Shangri la Boutique Hotel by expressing her gratitude to all workers who made a big difference to Yilan with their hard work, the China Daily news reported, citing a government release.
Among the 102 awardees, 17 were migrant workers, each receiving a certificate of appreciation printed in their mother language and gift vouchers from Lin.
They came from Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines to the island country as fishermen, factory workers and domestic and institutional caregivers.
Astuty, an Indonesian national working for the Lee family as a domestic caregiver, was praised highly by her employer for taking very good care of an elderly family member with Parkinson’s disease and treating her as if she were her own mother. It was reported that not only the Lee family were grateful for Astuty’s kindness, but also their neighbors spoke highly of the Indonesian caregiver.
