A foreign domestic worker appeared in a Hong Kong court on Thursday on theft charges after being accused of stealing jewelry from her employer in an apartment in Kowloon Tong last year.

Charity Faith Ramos appeared in Kowloon City Magistrate’s Courts, according to the daily cause list uploaded to the internet. In the court, the theft charge was read by an interpreter in Tagalog to the defendant, Sunwebhk.com reported.

Citing legal documents, the report said the defendant allegedly stole two diamond necklaces, one diamond bracelet, one diamond ring, six rings, some other jewelry and cash from her employer’s bedroom between May 7 and December 10, 2018.

Police found pawnshop receipts in the defendant’s belongings and tried to recover the missing items. The defendant was remanded in custody until April 26. The prosecutor applied to transfer the case to the District Court in Wan Chai.
