Two workers at a shipyard in Indonesia were left injured after a tanker exploded while undergoing repair work.
At around 5:25pm on April 24, workers at the PT Multi Ocean Shipyard (MOS) on Karimunbesar Island were working on a tanker when sparks from welding reportedly set off an explosion, leaving two workers with serious burns, Maritime-Executive reported.
The injured were rushed to the Muhammad Sani Regional General Hospital for treatment. Authorities have since launched an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion.
The vessel caught in the explosion was identified to be the 8,000 DWT Success Energy XXXII.
This is the second time in six months that the PT MOS has been affected by a major accident. In November 2018, a giant airbag used to move ships blew up, sending debris flying and injuring about two dozen workers.
