Một phụ nữ đã được khen ngợi vì đã cứu trẻ sơ sinh thoát chết khỏi các tập tục và tín ngưỡng lỗi thời của một sắc dân thiểu số ở Việt Nam.

Đinh Nay Huynh, chủ tịch hiệp hội phụ nữ xã Ayun ở huyện Chu Se, tỉnh Gia Lai, lần đầu tiên cứu một em bé 14 năm trước vì người mẹ mang thai sau khi người chồng đầu tiên qua đời.

Để trừng phạt người phụ nữ đã có con ngoài giá thú, họ hàng bên chồng quá cố của cô đã dự định giết chết em bé, một tập tục đã có hàng trăm năm của người dân tộc Bana .

Vào thời điểm đó, tập tục chôn sống trẻ sơ sinh, gồm trẻ sinh ra ngoài giá thú và trẻ có mẹ chết trong khi chuyển dạ là điều phổ biến với người Bana. Họ tin rằng những đứa trẻ như vậy đã mang lại xui xẻo cho dân làng và chỉ đến khi đứa bé chết cùng với mẹ thì linh hồn người mẹ mới có thể yên nghỉ.

Một đám đông vây quanh người phụ nữ khi cô chuyển dạ nhưng không ai giúp đỡ cô, ngoại trừ bà Huynh, người đỡ bé và ngay lập tức đưa bé đến phòng khám ngay cả khi một đám đông rượt theo bà để đòi giết chết đứa trẻ sơ sinh.

Bà Huynh sau đó nhận nuôi đứa trẻ vì người mẹ không muốn nuôi con.

Một bước ngoặt trước đó đến với bà Huynh năm 2001, khi bà chứng kiến ​​một em bé sơ sinh bị ném đá đến chết. Điều đó làm cho bà mất ngủ mấy đêm liền, cũng như làm cho bà Huynh nhận thấy là bà phải làm gì đó cho những đứa trẻ vô tội này.

Dân làng càng thấy bà ráng cứu trẻ sơ sinh, họ càng hiểu rằng bà đã đúng và các tập tục của họ đã lỗi thời. Chủ tịch Ủy ban Nhân dân Xã Ayun nói với một tờ báo tỉnh là bà Huynh đã có những đóng góp quan trọng không khác gì anh hùng.

Ở tuổi 59, bà Huynh hiện đang sống với hai đứa con nuôi của mình và hy vọng rằng những đứa trẻ được sinh ra trong làng sẽ không còn phải chịu bất công và sẽ có cuộc sống tốt hơn cha mẹ chúng.
