A US army veteran was jailed for life for killing a Filipino woman in 2012 in the Philippines.
Last year, Joseph Manuel Hunter and two others were convicted of killing a Filipino woman. Hunter reportedly paid the two, Adam Samia and Carl David Stillwell, US$35,000 each and supplied them with weapons, ABS-CBN News reported.
Samia and Stillwell traveled to the Philippines in early 2012 and watched their Filipino target for months. Hunter had given them information on the victim and weapons to use in the killing.
On February 12, 2012, Samia and Stillwell shot the woman multiple times and disposed of her body on a pile of trash. The two returned to North Carolina in the US after the murder and stayed there until their arrest in 2015.
The trio was convicted last year after a 12-day trial and were charged with murder-for-hire, which carries a mandatory life sentence.
On Thursday, Hunter was sentenced to life in a federal prison for his role in the murder-for-hire plot. Hunter’s legal representative Arnold J Levine said post-traumatic stress disorder was a mitigating factor in Hunter’s sentencing.
