American electronic carmaker Tesla will gradually shut all its physical stores in China and team up with Alipay to explore online sales, local media reported.

People familiar with the matter said the two Tesla stores in Shanghai will soon be closed and all sales personnel will no longer receive sales commissions, the International Finance News reported.

Tesla will team up with Alipay to launch online orders for the Model 3 soon, unidentified source close to Tesla said.

A Tesla spokesperson didn’t respond to the media inquiry and Alipay offered no further comment.

Tesla chief executive Elon Musk said the closing of its stores globally is an effort to cut overall costs. This will enable the company to lower selling prices on all models of its cars by 6% roughly.
