Four people were arrested by Macau judicial police on Thursday on charges related to illegal migrant workers.

The arrests came about as a result of police investigations into an assault case that took place in early February, Macao Daily News reported.

A 40-year-old Vietnamese illegal immigrant from Vietnam surnamed Nguyen and his friend were said to have assaulted another Vietnamese migrant worker surnamed Dong on February 6 after they had been drinking.

After the attack, Dong was captured by CCTV cameras chasing his two attackers with a knife. He was arrested later by the judiciary police.

Upon further investigation of the video footage, the police successfully located Nguyen. They intercepted him on Rua do Almirante Costa Cabral on Thursday while he was doing renovation work for a daily salary of 400 Macau patacas (US$50).

Nguyen was not able to provide identification documents, and was arrested for allegedly illegally entering Macau and working illegally.

His two employers, a 30-year-old mainland Chinese man and a 60-year-old Macau man were arrested for hiring an illegal worker.

Meanwhile, a female migrant worker from Vietnam surnamed Truong, who allegedly sub-let accommodation to Nguyen, was also arrested under suspicion of aiding persons to illegally remain in Macau.
