Police in Indonesia are hunting for two men who raped and killed a female Christian priest and attempted to murder a nine-year-old child.
According to the police chief in Ogan Komering Ilir Regency in South Sumatra, Doni Eka Saputra, the priest, referred to in reports as MZ, was raped before she was killed at an oil palm plantation, The Jakarta Post reported. The crime took place on March 25 and locals found her body, partly clothed, the next day.
MZ was a pastoral candidate at the Indonesian Evangelical Christian Church. On March 25 she went shopping at a local market with a nine-year-old girl. On their way back to the church they were stopped on their motorcycle by two masked individuals.
The priest and the girl identified as NP were taken to the plantation, tied up and strangled. NP was thrown into nearby bushes, where she later regained consciousness. She made her way back to the church, where she explained what had happened. When MZ was found, she was dead.
MZ’s body was sent for an autopsy and has since been delivered to her hometown in Nias, North Sumatra.
The authorities are taking care of NP and are investigating the case. No arrests have been made.
