The Civil Aviation Administration of China has instructed to suspend all operation of Boeing 737Max with immediate effect. Handout.

Chinese airlines have suspended operation of all Boeing 737 Max aircraft after an Ethiopian Airlines flight from Addis Ababa to Nairobi crashed shortly after takeoff on Sunday, killing all 157 people aboard.

It is the second time in less than six months that a relatively new Boeing 737 Max was involved in a similar catastrophic accident.

Industry insiders said the Civil Aviation Administration of China ordered the suspension of operations of Boeing 737 Max aircraft with immediate effect.

Boeing 737-800 models will replace many of the domestic flights that were set for the Boeing 737 Max, reported.

There are about 60 Boeing 737 Max aircraft that have been delivered to Chinese carriers, including Air China, China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines.

As of January 2019, Boeing has received orders of 5,077 units of 737 Max aircraft, and 350 units have been delivered globally, the report said.
