Chính quyền Malaysia đang truy lùng một người đàn ông Việt Nam nghi là kẻ cầm đầu một tổ chức buôn người chuyên đưa người ra vào Johor và Pahang ở Malaysia bất hợp pháp.
Cảnh sát cho biết Nguyễn Hải Âu chịu trách nhiệm tổ chức đưa 19 công dân Việt Nam từ 19 đến 50 tuổi đi bất hợp pháp trên một chiếc thuyền đánh cá vào sáng sớm ngày 30 tháng 1, theo Cơ quan Thực thi Hàng hải Malaysia (MMEA), China Press đưa tin.
Người Việt Nam nhập cư bất hợp pháp chủ yếu kiếm sống bằng nghề đánh cá, đã bị giam giữ vào khoảng 2h35 sáng trên một thuyền đánh cá cách bờ biển Tanjung Empit, Endau, ở quận Mersing của Johor 1,8 hải lý.
Cơ quan này đã truy quét lớn sau khi bắt giữ một phụ nữ Việt Nam, là đối tác của kẻ cầm đầu băng nhóm, người ta phát hiện ra bà này trong một căn nhà ở Pahang vào khoảng 10:15 sáng ngày 3 tháng 2. Bà ta chuyên làm giả mạo hồ sơ của ngư dân di cư, để họ được phép làm việc và vượt biên trái pháp.
Trong cuộc đột kích, các sĩ quan Cơ quan Thực thi Hàng hải Malaysia – MMEA đã phục hồi và thu giữ tổng cộng 36 hộ chiếu Việt Nam, 54 sổ thuyền viên Việt Nam, tem phê duyệt thủy thủ giả và các tài liệu nghi vấn khác. Nhà chức trách kêu gọi công chúng trình báo tin tức của Nguyễn. Bất cứ ai có thông tin gì nên báo cáo cho văn phòng Khu vực Hàng hải Mersing.
