Four teenagers in Vietnam were arrested after being linked to a series of robberies that targeted tourists.
On February 14, police in Hoi An said Tran Van Quang, 18, Dinh Phuong Son, 17, Le Dinh Thong and Tran Huu Phuoc, both 16, had been involved in more than four incidents of bag snatching during Tet, the Lunar New Year, VN Express reported.
Son and Quang allegedly stole a handbag from a Dutch woman while she was riding a bicycle on February 6. On February 10, the two stole another handbag from a Chinese woman, which contained 3 million dong (US$128) and a mobile phone.
Then, on February 11, Thong and Son snatched a handbag belonging to a French woman in Cam Chau Ward, which had 500,000 dong in it. On the Same day, Thong, Quang and Phuoc drove by a Serbian man on a motorbike and snatched his backpack on Hai Ba Trung Street.
Two cell phones and 1 million dong were in the backpack. Authorities received complaints about the robberies and on February 12, the four were arrested while they were looking for people to rob. Hoi An is one a popular tourist destination in Vietnam. The city has a ban on motorbikes and cars from entering the city center during certain times.
