Din Tai Fung, a popular Chinese restaurant chain, has closed one of its branches in Sydney, Australia, after a rat was filmed running across its kitchen.

On January 31, a video showing a rat running across the counter-top in the restaurant, in a Westfield shopping mall in Pitt Street, surfaced online, Asia One reported.

A City of Sydney spokesperson said the central business district had seen a rise in rat sightings due to demolition and recent construction work. According to local media reports, the restaurant branch was voluntarily closed by Din Tai Fung. The chain added that they were taking the incident seriously and had employed pest control specialists to handle the situation.

They assured customers that the restaurant can do better. An environmental health officer has inspected the premises and a prohibition order was issued on the restaurant. It can only reopen after passing an inspection.

Din Tai Fung was founded in Taiwan as a cooking oil retail business in 1958 and changed to a steamed dumpling and noodle restaurant in 1972. It has branches throughout the world including the United States, Singapore, China, Japan and the United Kingdom.
