Ang isang bagong desisyon ng gobyerno ay nangangahulugang ang mga migranteng Pilipino ngayon ay kinakailangang dumalo sa sapilitang seminar sa pinansyal na literacy bago sila magtungo sa ibang bansa.

Inilunsad ng Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) ang programang Pinansyal na Talino at Kaalam (PiTaKa) na magiging bahagi ng Seminar ng Oryentasyon ng Pag-alis at Post-Arrival Orientation Seminar ng mga migranteng Pilipino, iniulat ng GMA News.

Sa ilalim ng programa, ang mga Pilipinong migranteng manggagawa ay matuturuan sa pamamahala ng kanilang mga pananalapi ng mas mahusay, lalo na kapag nagsimula silang magtrabaho sa ibang bansa. Ang programa ay naglalayong tulungan ang mga Pilipino na mag-save ng sapat na pera hanggang sa kalaunan ay magpasiya na magtatag ng kanilang sariling mga negosyo sa Pilipinas o sa ibang bansa.

Sinabi ng OWWA Administrator na si Hans Leo Cacdac na ang programa ay tutulong upang matiyak na ang mga Pilipinong migranteng manggagawa ay may “mas mahusay na pag-uugali sa pananalapi”. Ayon sa Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) na si Gobernador Nestor Espenilla Jr., 35.5% ng mga manggagawang Pilipino ang naglaan ng kanilang remittances bilang savings. Sa numerong iyon, 5% ang namumuhunan sa kanilang pera sa mga instrumento sa pananalapi.

“Bilang patuloy na accountant para sa 10% ng gross domestic product sa Pilipinas, ang mga migranteng Pilipino ay tunay na mga modernong bayani. Gayunman, patuloy naming naririnig ang mga kuwento ng mga Pilipino na nakaharap sa mga pakikibakang pinansyal, “sabi ni Espenilla.

Ang programa ay pinangunahan ng BSP sa pakikipagtulungan sa OWWA at sa BDO Foundation.
