A man has appeared in court after being charged with stabbing a cyclist who collided with his Filipina girlfriend in Dubai, UAE.
According to the Dubai Criminal Court, the incident happened on October 15 last year when the 22-year-old Arab man went to a nightclub with his Filipina girlfriend and her workmate, Gulf Today reported.
After their night out, the man was walking with both Filipinas towards his car when a Nigerian cyclist accidentally hit his girlfriend with his bicycle.
The Arab man then allegedly kicked the bicycle, knocking the other man off, and stabbed him six times before getting into a taxi in an attempt to escape. The victim threw himself on the hood of the taxi, forcing the driver to stop and call the police, at which point the alleged attacker jumped out of the taxi and ran off.
The Nigerian later received help while the attacker was arrested inside a hotel in Oud Metha. During the investigation, the accused said he only stabbed the Nigerian in an act of self defense, and that he could not remember the parts of the man he had stabbed as he had had a lot to drink.
The prosecution is seeking the heaviest punishment for the defendant, who did not attend the trial. The court adjourned, and a ruling will be made on February 28.
