A man in Indonesia allegedly stole money from his employer just to be able to buy new brand-name clothes for himself.

The 40-year-old perpetrator, identified as IN, stole 25 million rupiah (US$1,695), as well as a diamond ring, from his employer’s home at the House of Representatives housing complex in Joglo, Kembangan district, West Jakarta, The Jakarta Post reported.

According to local police, IN confessed that he had stolen the money on Monday to buy a JF jacket and a pair of Converse sandals. He said he stole the items while the owner, who had hired him to paint his house, was out buying medicine.

By the time the owner returned, IN had left the house. The owner reported to police that the money and ring were missing from the closet where they had been kept.

The accused is being detained by police.
