Two Filipino domestic workers faced charges of stealing cash, jewelry and personal belongings from their employer’s residence in a Dubai court earlier this week.
The two Filipinas, aged 29 and 47, were accused of stealing clothes, shoes, travel bags, cosmetics and a mobile phone. They also stole 10,000 dirhams (US$2,723) worth of jewelry and 4,500 dirhams ($1,225) in cash, Khaleej Times reported.
According to the Emirati employer, her husband woke her up after discovering the two Filipinas were not in the house. The female employer said five of their travel bags that were kept in a storage room were also missing. She said there were belongings inside the bags.
“I went to check their room and found it was tidy in a way, suggesting they did not spend the night there,” the female employer said.
The employer’s husband filed a complaint at Al Rashidiya Police Station against the two domestic workers and an arrest warrant was issued against them. The two Filipinas were detained but there was no detail as to when they were arrested.
At the Dubai Court of First Instance, the two Filipinas faced a theft charge, which carries a sentence from six months up to three years or a fine. If convicted, the two Filipinas face imprisonment and deportation after serving their punishment. The court will issue a ruling on February 25.
