A 46-year-old Filipina domestic worker who was found unconscious in her employer’s home on February 2 died the following day in a medical center.
Eva Pascua collapsed in her employer’s home and was sent to Caritas Medical Centre in Kowloon’s Chueng Sha Wan, sunwebhk.com reported. The maid was from San Agustin. A friend of hers reported the death to the Philippine Consulate.
Pascua’s daughter arrived in Hong Kong from Manila on February 4 and was working on repatriating the remains of her mother to the Philippines. The cause of death was not immediately known.
The maid had cardiac arrest, according to hongkonwnews.com reported.
On the same day, domestic worker Donna M Avanceña, 56, passed away after being was found unconscious at her employer’s home in the Mid-Levels. Consul General Antonio Morales has urged Filipinos workers in Hong Kong to be careful of their health.
The Philippines Overseas Labour Office has been offering free medical check-ups for workers in the city at its Wan Chai office since November last year as they found an increasing number of workers had fallen sick.
According to data from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), the number of welfare assistance cases involving overseas foreign workers with medical problems in Hong Kong stood at 113 in 2014, it increased to 129 in 2015, 244 in 2016 and 416 in 2017.
