Ang mga Filipina domestic worker na nagsimula ng isang “Ipon (Saving) Challenge” ay nakapagpapatibay ng mga resulta sa halaga ng pera na kanilang na-save.

Halos 80 manggagawa na sumali sa Financial literacy workshop na inorganisa ng CARD Hong Kong Foundation sa Philippine Overseas Labor Office ngayong buwan, ay nagsasagawa ng isang hamon, na mag-save ng bahagi ng kanilang buwanang kita para sa kanilang mga pangangailangan sa ibang pagkakataon, iniulat ng sunwebhk.com.

Ang ideya ay magkaroon ng isang improvised piggy bank – kahit na isang walang laman na plastic bottle, isang selyadong box o isang maliit na soda container – kung saan pinipilit nila ang kanilang sarili na mag-deposito ng higit sa HK$10 o HK$20 na halaga (US$1.30 hanggang $2.50) sa loob ng tinakdang panahon.

Pagkatapos ay ginagamit ang pera para sa isang proyektong nahihirapan sila sa pagpopondo nang tahasan mula sa kanilang suweldo, o idinadagdag sa kanilang mga bank account.

Ang isa sa mga manggagawa na nagngangalang Lyn Navio, isang nagtapos ng nursing at ina sa isang 16 na taong gulang na batang lalaki, ang nagbahagi ng kanyang karanasan sa mga trainer.

Sinimulan ni Lyn ang pag-save ng lahat ng kanyang HK$20 bill, at nilalagay sa isang transparent plastic soda bottle sa loob ng anim na buwan. Sa huli, nakapag-ipon sya ng may kabuuang HK$21,760.

Sinabi niya na agad niyang idineposito ang pera sa kanyang piso account na maaari niyang gamitin para sa investment, o i-save bilang bahagi ng kanyang pensiyon.

Sinabi ng isa pang manggagawa na nag-iimpok siya para sa ikapitong kaarawan ng kanyang anak, ngunit karamihan ay nagsabing gusto nilang magtabi ng pera para sa kanilang sarili.

Sa financial literacy workshop, natututo din ang mga manggagawa upang mas mahusay na mapahalagahan ang pera na kanilang pinagtatrabahuhan, at natuturuan din sila kung paano nila mas paghuhusayan ang paggamit ng pera sa pamamagitan ng pagtatakda ng isang layunin, pag-iwas sa mga pautang at  maging maingat na pamumuhunan.
