Three Vietnamese migrant workers, two of them riding electric motorcycles while the other was a passenger, were intercepted and two of them arrested by patrol officers in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, after they were suspected of drink driving.

On January 28, officers from Hunei Precinct of the Kaohsiung City Government Police Bureau spotted two electric motorcycles at the intersection between Jhongshan Road and Dahu Road violating traffic rules by riding in parallel in the outermost lane, The United Daily News reported.

The two vehicles were directed to stop by the roadside, where police noticed that the Vietnamese riders, a 32-year-old man surnamed Pham and a 26-year-man surnamed Tran, smelled of alcohol.

The pair admitted to the police that they had been drinking during dinner to say farewell to their 29-year-old compatriot Nguyen who was the passenger on one of the vehicles.

The two men were subjected to breath alcohol tests, and both riders’ results exceeded the acceptable legal limit of 0.25 mg/Litre.

Pham and Tran were arrested for offenses against public safety and the case was referred to Ciaotou District Prosecutors Office for further action.
