Two Malaysian fishermen were robbed by a group of armed men in the Hand Rock Sea near the border between Indonesia and Malaysia on New Year’s Eve.
At about 3:50 pm on December 31, Malaysians Mohammad Amin Abd Hassan, 35, and Salleh Abd Hassan, 31 were fishing when they saw four men heading towards their boat, Free Malaysia Today reported.
Fadil Marsus, the chief of police in Tawau, Malaysia, said one of the men held the two Malaysians at gunpoint. Their boat was boarded by two of the armed men, who took their phones and the haul of fish they had caught.
The suspects then fled towards Sungai Nyamuk in Indonesia.
A nearby fisherman helped the victims after the incident. Marsus concluded that the case was being probed as a “police inquiry paper” given that the case took place in Indonesian waters.
