After already winning a Golden Globe, actor Darren Criss has become the first Filipino-American to win a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award for Best Actor.
At the 25th SAG Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, Criss took the award for his performance as serial killer Andrew Cunanan in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, Manila Bulletin reported.
Criss won Best Actor in a Limited Series, beating fellow nominees Antonio Banderas, Hugh Grant, Anthony Hopkins and Bill Pullmann.
In an interview with ABS-CBN, Criss expressed his delight at Filipino talent being recognized on the international scene.
“It’s just a wonderful thing to be able to talk about and shed light on Filipinos in entertainment,” Criss said.
Earlier this month, Criss became the first Filipino-American to win a Golden Globe award for the same role. This was also Criss’ first Golden Globe award in his career. He has also won an Emmy award and Critics Choice Awards.
