An Indonesian woman in her 30s was found dead on Monday evening at a workers’ hostel in Malaysia by her employer, who had tried to reach her in person as she had been absent from work for three days.

The furniture shop owner visited the hostel in Jalan Reko, Kajang, Selangor, at 6.20pm on December 31.

His sales employee was last seen at around 9pm on Thursday December 27, the Guang Ming Daily (Malaysia) reported.

The employer contacted police immediately after finding his employee’s body – half-naked, gagged and with her hands tied up – in the hostel.

The victim’s body was then transferred to Serdang Hospital for a post-mortem, which was conducted on Tuesday. Forensic experts believed the victim’s died of asphyxia due to smothering, police said.

Officers said they were not able to recover the woman’s passport.

Kajang District Police are investigating the case, which was listed as a crime under Section 302 of the Penal Code – murder.
