A 34-year-old Indonesian woman’s 29-year-old Bangladeshi boyfriend has been charged with murder after her body was found in a hotel room in Geylang, Singapore, on Sunday night.
At about 10:30 pm on December 30, the body of a woman named Nurhidayati was found by a hotel employee in a room on the third floorof the Golden Dragon Hotel at 61 Westerhout Road, the Lianhe Zaobao (Singapore) reported. She had marks on her neck and bruises on her arms.
The woman was pronounced dead by paramedics who were called to the scene. Her body was fully clothed.
Staff had gone upstairs to check as the room’s occupants were scheduled to check out at 10 pm. The room had been booked by the woman and a Bangladeshi man named Ahmed Salim, who had originally booked it at 5 pm for three hours, then extended it to five hours.
A preliminary investigation showed the woman was an Indonesian with a work permit, while the man had a work permit and was from Bangladesh. The man was tracked down and arrested within 14 hours of the report being made.
Police said he would be charged with murder at a court on Wednesday.
