A Vietnamese contestant took the crown of Miss Earth 2018 from 88 other women last Saturday. Phuong Khanh Nguyen, a 23-year-old marketing graduate from Ben Tre province in the Mekong Delta area, was crowned by Karen Ibasco, the previous winner of the contest, the Manila Standard reported.

Throughout the contest, Nguyen stressed preserving the Mekong River Delta, and that topic was also the theme of her video presented at the pageant.

During a question-and-answer session, Nguyen was asked about the most pressing issue of her generation and replied by saying people should think more about the Earth instead of vanity and that a small action multiplied by one million people could change the world.

The Vietnamese Instagram model was also awarded gold for Best National Costume and Best in Evening Gown categories.
