Police have launched a three-day hunt for burglars after another break-in at a luxury villa on Kowloon Peak on Thursday. At 8 am, a 32-year-old woman called police to report that a villa at Flamingo Garden on Fei Ngo Shan Road was found ransacked, Sing Tao Daily reported.
Residents in the villa were woken by a dog barking and the sound of footsteps at about 2 am, but they did not get up and check what happened. After an initial investigation, police found footprints on the roof of the four-story villa and a window in the reading room prised open.
They believe the burglars came from the hillside and climbed to the rooftop before breaking in the villa. The villa is owned by a well known architect who lived there with his wife, daughter and a domestic worker.
A total of HK$150,000 (US$19,137) worth of valuables, including HK$50,000 in cash, RMB and foreign currencies worth about HK$50,000 and gold jewelry was lost.
At least six burglaries have been reported in recent months along Clear Water Bay Road in Sai Kung in the New Territories, including in the areas like Tseng Lan Shue, Fei Ngor Shan, Ta Ku Ling village and Pak Shek Terrace. Police have deployed about 50 officers in a three-day operation to search the hillside and woods around the area, Sing Pao reported.
