A two-meter long wild boar with a history of attacking people injured a 38-year-old man in Sai Kung in the New Territories on Sunday night.

At 11pm, the man was carrying a plastic bag and walking to his car in Che Ha Tsuen on Sai Sha Road when four wild boars searching for food around a trash collection point spotted him, Headline Daily reported.

The biggest of the four boars, a two-meter-long beast, suddenly ran towards the man and bit his left leg. The man was injured and walked back to his girlfriend’s house where he called police for help. He was sent to hospital for treatment.

The group of boars were still at the scene when officers from the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department arrived and pushed them back into the hills.

Villagers said it was not the first time the large boar had attacked people. A villager carrying a box of cooked food had been attacked earlier and suffered injuries to his hand.

Locals said boars first appeared in the village four years ago and liked to follow people carrying a plastic bag as they were looking for food. The boars also search for food at the trash collection point.

Some locals complained that people bought food and fed them, which the government had advised against doing.

In a separate case, three young boars were seen walking on Tai Hang Road in Causeway Bay at 3pm on Monday. They were dismissed by the police.
