An Indonesian woman gave birth on an Etihad Airways flight from Abu Dhabi to Jakarta on Wednesday morning. In the early hours on Wednesday, flight EY474 left the United Arab Emirates for Indonesia’s capital, but had to divert to Mumbai in India when the woman went into labor, AFP reported, citing a spokesperson of Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.

A baby girl was born about 40 minutes before the plane landed. The woman and baby were received by a medical team at the airport and then taken to the Seven Hills Hospital. At 9:40am, the flight departed Mumbai for Jakarta and finished its journey two hours later than scheduled.

Mumbai previously saw a delivery in the air last year when an Indian woman gave birth to a boy on at Jet Airways flight from Damman, Saudi Arabia, to Kochi, India, which also had to land in Mumbai. Jet Airways granted the boy free travel for life as it was the first baby born on its flights.
