The Philippine government is negotiating for the release of three Filipino engineers who were kidnapped in Libya. In July, the three engineers and a South Korean man were abducted by an unidentified armed group from a construction site 500 kilometers from the capital of Libya, Philippine News Agency reported.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano said the Philippine government has been working on their release, but added he could not disclose any information on the case.
“I cannot tell you exactly but in the last few days, there have been some movements in the negotiation and the people negotiating it are on top of it,” Cayetano said.
Cayetano said the government will provide assistance to the victims’ families in the Philippines.
“I will follow that up not only for those who were kidnapped but also Filipinos who cannot fly back home, this shouldn’t be a one-time assistance, we need to also check on their families’ needs,” he said.
