A 36-year-old man of Pakistani origin pleaded guilty to one count of rape and theft at the High Court in Hong Kong on Wednesday.
The defendant, Shahid Imran-younas, was accused of raping a 28-year-old female screenwriter in Sham Shui Po, Kowloon and also of stealing her mobile phone, Oriental Daily reported.
The court heard that the man, currently listed as jobless, was born in Pakistan and came to Hong Kong in 1994. He was sentenced to three years in jail for robbery in 2015, and was released in April 2017.
The attack took place at 3am on 15 September last year, when the victim, whose name was withheld to protect her privacy, was returning to her place of residence after spending time with her boyfriend.
As she returned to her building, the accused appeared behind her and asked her for a cigarette. She turned him down.
After she opened the security gate, the defendant dragged her to the rear of her building and raped her. He also took her mobile phone before he fled.
When police arrested the defendant two days after the assault they found the victim’s telephone in his possession.
The case was adjourned until October 22.
