An Indonesian football fan was killed by a mob of supporters from a rival club, who beat him to death outside a stadium in Bandung, Indonesia, on Sept. 23.
Only hours before a match between Persib Bandung and Persija Jakarta, 23-year-old Jakarta fan Haringga Sirla was attacked by a group of Bandung supporters outside the Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium where the match was to be played, NDTV reported.
Sirla arrived in Bandung alone on Sunday and went to see the game with a local friend. When they arrived at the stadium, they were approached by a group of Bandung supporters who were checking for spectators with non-Bandung ID Cards, AS reported.
Sirla was chased, surrounded and then beaten to death by the group.
Police spokesman Yoris Maulana said the assailants beat him with their hands, feet and objects such as helmets and planks. Sirla died at the scene.
Akmal Marhali, a local football analyst, said the incident was the seventh death related to Bandung-Jakarta matches since 2012, and added that negligence by authorities allowed these incidents to happen.
The Indonesian Football Association expressed their condolences and said they hope incidents of this kind will not happen again. The governor of West Java also condemned the tragedy.
