Police are hunting two burglars armed with knives who broke into a villa in Stanley on Hong Kong Island on Thursday and tied up two Indonesian domestic workers before robbing the place.
At about 7pm on Thursday, 43-year-old domestic worker Idawati returned to the home after taking the trash out of the villa on 10 Tai Tam Road in Stanley. The two men followed her, news website HK01.com reported, then threatened her with a 30-centimeter knife and forced her to take them into the house.
Idawati and 42-year-old domestic worker Rusmiati were then tied up and had adhesive tape put over their mouths. The burglars then ransacked the two-story house and escaped.
The employers were out for dinner and were not aware of the burglary until the domestic workers managed to untie themselves and phone them. Both women were unhurt.
The female employer, 70, reported the case to police at about 11pm.
A total of HK$60,000 in cash (US$7,644), 20,000 Renminbi (US$2,918) and two mobile phones worth about HK$2,800 were taken.
Police searched the area but there was no sign of the men. They are now hunting two male suspects aged 30 to 40 and 25 to 35, 1.7 meters to 1.75 meters tall. Both men were wearing black shirts, black hats and masks.
