Chinese e-commerce tycoon Liu Qiangdong, who is also known as Richard Liu, was arrested in the United States on Friday over allegations of criminal sexual conduct, AFP reported.

Liu, founder and CEO of Chinese online retailer, was arrested late Friday night in the midwestern city of Minneapolis and released Saturday afternoon.

Police said the investigation was active and would not confirm details of the arrest or the allegations against the 45-year-old billionaire.

“The individual was arrested Friday evening and released Saturday afternoon. He was released pending formal complaint,” a spokesman told AFP.

In a statement posted on Weibo, a Chinese social media network, confirmed that Liu had been arrested over what it said was a false allegation made during a business trip.
