A domestic worker from Indonesia was killed after being hit by a falling tree branch in Sau Mau Ping in Kowloon on Tuesday morning.

The maid, reportedly in her 30s and working in Hong Kong for over 10 years, was hit by the falling branch when she passed a bus stop near Kei Shun Primary School in Shun Lee Estate on New Clear Water Bay Road at 7am, news website HK01.com reported.

The victim sustained head injuries and was knocked to the ground unconscious. She was sent to the United Christian Hospital for resuscitation while her employer and a friend also rushed to the hospital. However, she was pronounced dead later, Oriental Daily reported.

The Fire Services Department said the tree branch that fell on her was three metres long and 15 centimeters thick.

After checking, firemen removed three other branches from the tree that were deemed dangerous.

The government’s Tree Management Office has been asked to conduct further checks to see if there are other trees in the area which pose a similar risk, Radio Television Hong Kong reported.
