Two Indonesian fishermen were arrested in Kaohsiung City in Taiwan on Tuesday night and charged with smoking and possessing methamphetamine.
The two men, aged 27 and 33, were spotted by police acting suspiciously on the streets in Kaohsiung City late on Tuesday night. They were checked by police and arrested after officers found a bag of methamphetamine and smoking apparatus on the men.
Police on patrol in Sanmin district said the two men looked unwell and were squatting at the intersection of Jianguo Road and Nantai Road, The Real Daily reported.
Officers asked the men if they needed help and one of the men, was later identified as Fredy, 27, tried to run away. He left a black leather bag which had smoking apparatus and methamphetamine inside.
The other man, named as Joniprio, 33, was found to be carrying 0.65 grams of methamphetamine. Preliminary investigations showed both men were fishermen working on the same boat which had recently docked at the Port of Kaohsiung for a 90-day stay.
The pair had been in Taiwan for one month and said they bought the drugs for US$100 from a Taiwanese man at Cijin Harbor.
The pair were reportedly fired by their employer after their arrest and charges with violating the Narcotics Endangerment Prevention Act.
