Shen Danyang, spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce and head of the Policy Research Office, has been promoted to deputy governor of Hainan province, The Paper reported.

Born in 1965, Shen is a Doctor of Economics and a doctoral tutor, graduating from Xiamen University. He entered the Ministry of Commerce in 2008.

As an expert in the fields of international trade and service economy, Shen has published more than 10 monographs, nearly 100 papers and research reports, and hosted dozens of major research projects at the provincial and ministerial level.

Hainan’s big moves of introducing cadre talent have continued — another “expert-type” deputy governor, Peng Jinhui, took office earlier in February. Peng was former president of Kunming University of Science and Technology.

In April of this year, the central government also decided to turn Hainan island into a free trade pilot zone and a free trade port.
