A four-year-old girl was killed after being hit by a van on Clearwater Bay Road in Sai Kung in the New Territories on Friday.

A 30-year-old woman who lives with her family in Pak Shek Wo in Sai Kung was with her seven-year-old son and four-year-old daughter before the accident happened, Sing Tao Daily reported.

The family of three were waiting at a crossing in the middle of the road near Pak Shek Wo and the girl was not holding her mother’s hand. She suddenly ran from the crossing as a seven-seater van was coming along the road.

The girl was hit by the van and thrown into the air before landing on the road three meters from the crossing. Paramedic arrived very quickly, but they pronounced her dead at the scene.

A man who saw the accident said the van was moving fast when the accident happened, Sing Pao reported. The male driver, 56, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
