A 32-year-old Filipina maid who reportedly attempted suicide in her employer’s house in Sheung Shui in the New Territories on August 1 was taken off life support after being pronounced clinically dead, according to officials from the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong.
According to Consul Paulo Saret, the head of the consulate’s assistance to nationals section, staff at North District Hospital in Sheung Shui turned off the life support system at 2pm on Wednesday as the woman was declared brain-dead on Monday afternoon, the sunwebhk.com reported.
The woman’s husband, who she only married on June 25, arrived in Hong Kong on Tuesday, just in time to see his wife being taken off life support. A source said the woman had returned home recently to get married in a civil ceremony and planned a church wedding later.
Her remains will be sent to the Philippines. The woman, who had worked in Hong Kong for eight years, had reportedly hanged herself in a bedroom and was found by her 39-year-old male employer, who took her down and called police. She was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
Consul Saret advised Filipino domestic workers in Hong Kong to talk with relatives and friends about their problems to unburden themselves or call for help. “Whatever problem a worker has, be it over money, or problems with employers, a solution can be found.”

Roger Lim i agree. This is a sad case. She just tried to solve everything by taking her own life. I think she’s suffering from depression out of all the problems she have.
We will not know the reason now.
I’m not saying that this is the reason but I’m just saying that you need to see the bigger picture as I don’t think they are a new couple since they don’t normally match-make in the Philippines.
I have known cases whereby the women were upset that while they are working so hard as OFW, sending money back and discovered that their spouses cheated them behind their backs. The stronger ones may leave their spouses but the weaker ones may grieve over it.
Then there are also OFWs who were upset that their families back home are always asking them to send more money back home as if they are earning a lot and become upset when their families chided and scolded them over the phone, etc.
Like I said, so many possibilities but unfortunately, we won’t know.
