A Vietnamese man accused of kidnapping the former executive of an oil company in Germany has admitted his guilt.
Nguyen Hai Long, 47, rented three cars that were to be used by Vietnam’s secret police to kidnap Trinh Xuan Thanh, the former head of Petro Vietnam Construction, on July 23, 2017, in Berlin, Radio Free Asia reported.
On Tuesday in a Berlin court, Long pleaded guilty to the crime. If convicted, he could face a jail term of between three and five years.
Long admitted he knew about the plot to kidnap Thanh and worked with Vietnam’s secret police to take Thanh back to Vietnam.
Thanh was sentenced to life in jail in Vietnam on charges of mismanagement and embezzlement. Long’s verdict will be heard on Monday.
