A 39-year-old maid was killed on Wednesday after falling while cleaning a window in a luxury apartment in Tseung Kwan O in the New Territories.
A 22-year-old woman called police after her maid fell while cleaning a window at an apartment in The Wing II complex on Tong Chun Street in Tseung Kwan O, the Apple Daily reported.
The report did not disclose the maid’s nationality. Police arrived and found the woman, who was sent to Tseung Kwan O Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. No suicide note was found in the apartment.
Police found nothing suspicious after an initial investigation pending an autopsy to confirm the actual cause of death. There have been many cases of maids falling to their death while window-cleaning in Hong Kong.
In 2017, the Labor Department introduced new rules aimed at protecting domestic workers from such accidents in high-rise buildings by adding two new clauses to employment contracts.
One clause stipulates that only windows with locked grilles can be cleaned by maids. The other stated that no part of the helper’s body should be outside the window except for the arms.

My goodness it said already and its in contract that domestic helper are not allowed to clean windows outside haist employer is responsible for this ????☹

Well, even it was being implemented, there is still most employers who are not following such rule, then what can the helpers do ? Instead of will be terminated, some would risk their lives just to stop arguments with thise inconsiderate employers…. i am not saying all!!! But mostly are like that
Employers who allowed thier helpers to clean Windows in a high rise building’s should be punished in order for them to fallow the New Rules in the said contract agreement…
