Five Indonesian students from the University of March Eleven in Surakarta, Central Java, won gold medals at the 6th Macao International Innovation and Invention Expo (MIIE) on July 15.
A total of 162 projects were presented at the event held at the Macau Science Centre in Nape from July 13 to 15.
They also received a special award from the World Invention Intellectual Property Association (WIIPA) for their invention named Coco Fiber Diffussorber for Interior Product, or “Code-Pro,” according to a press release. The team made a table lamp and wall decorations with coconut shells.
“We saw a lot of great inventions during the event while our invention is very simple, just using coconuts,” one of the winning team was quoted as saying in a Kumbang Toh! News report.

He said he had hoped to win in the international event but could not believe it when his dream came true. He said he plans to study physics in an overseas university.
The team said they enjoyed their visit to Macau. They praised the Macanese for their “orderly manner, on time and funny.”
Attended by professionals, managers, CEOs, COOs, researchers, directors, key decision makers and inventors, the MIIE provided a chance for participants to meet other inventors and innovation industry experts as well as key market controllers. The event was jointly organized by the WIIPA and the Macau Innovation & Invention Association (MIIA).
