A Filipina domestic helper has stated in court that she was shocked when her employer pulled a diamond ring from the pocket of her backpack on April 24.
Jeambreth Algura made the statement during her trial in Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Court on July 10 for allegedly stealing two diamond rings owned by the female employer she had served for the past seven years, the sunwebhk.com reported.
The defendant told the court that her employer Lau Yi-ki sent her on an errand that day. When she came back to find two police officers in the apartment, she noticed that her umbrella, which she usually put in the pocket of her backpack, was in the wrong place.
The defendant said the officers informed her that she was being investigated over the loss of her employer’s two rings.
The defendant said Lau opened her luggage and spilled her personal belongings onto the living room floor.
Then, the employer opened her backpack and did the same, in doing so discovering one of the two missing rings and allegedly spotting the other.
When the police officers asked Algura her how the rings got into her backpack, she said she was shocked to be suspected of stealing.
Upon cross-examination by the prosecution lawyer, the defendant mentioned she was told once by Lau’s elder son, who lived in a separate unit, that his mother wanted to take revenge on her because his younger brother was closer to the maid than their mother.
The younger son, who is now 16 years old, gave evidence to the court saying the defendant is a helpful and honest domestic worker, adding that he was very close to her as the maid had been taking care of him since he was eight years old.
Algura was remanded in custody after the hearing. She has been in detention since Apr 24, when bail was refused.
Read: Filipina maid held for ‘stealing diamond ring from employer’

Just simple english my co Filipina didn’t understand what he means…re read his comments and there you’ll understand it…
Sorry Mike foo…they misunderstood what u mean
A lie detector test will clear up who is telling the truth. The person, either maid or employer, can request the test which should give the police an idea of who is lying.
The police can do something if the maid finger prints was in the ring .right so she can tell to the police to check..the ring..whose finger print is there….
Ahhh…if you are a real woman,a mother,and a citizen of hongkong.. Be a human….walang utang na loob…..
Bee Tee tama mga kababayan basahin nio muna maigi yung comment ni mr foo,,,,bago tayo magcomment…..
Amitaf Yognim Rajab mr foo refering to the girls not the maid to beware….
Shane Misty Eyes what conclusion u are talking about, do u really read my comments. I didn’t even touch anything about the maid. All I am saying is about the employer mother and her younger son. I advise you to read again my comments and get it right.
Have the finger print test on the two rings… In that way truth will prevail…. .simple logic… If the maid really steals those rings…. She will kept it secretly that nobody could find it or trace it… And how come that the employeer directly go to check the back pack with all the maids things…."GOD KNOWS. . JUDAS WILL PAY….. Just pray lng ATE.. TRUTH WILL ..PREVAIL…so sad that because of some wrong mind set of some employeers there are life who are disgrading not only for the helper itself but also for thier whole family????
Mike Fo yah you have point a witch mother can ruin any future relationship of his son,, what a sad life.
Mike foo, you are wrong into your conclusion, the news said the younger son is more closer to the helper than his mother, therefor the mother got jealous because of the attention given by the son to the helper, the reason maybe he is more closer to the helper than his mother because the helper took good care of him since he was 8yrs old so why do say avoid this kind of helper? Don’t you be thankful because the helper love their kids the way she love her own child? We can think that the helper treated the boy in a good way!!!
Omg…. Jealous mother! Instead of thanking her maid because She was taking care of her child and family this is what she did to the poor helper!!! Tsk tsk!!! so disgusting!
Mike foo did you read the whole.story.and did you understand it ?
the child is only 16 yrs old ,and when the pilipina arrived at there house the child is only 8 yrs old,, supposedly the pilipina she is the one to stand like a mother to that child did you get it?
They mis understood Mike Foos’ statement because of the missing connecting words in the sentence. Everybody is free to write comments regarding on this issue and it’s better to focus on what the content is..Their is a saying that if you do good, it will come back to you because even the mother commit evil act but her sons correct that mistake by testifying that the maid is a good person..and that’s the karma of the mother..as the saying goes” their is light in every darkness”
Steve Goodlay… Well, of course the employer has fingerprint because that’s her ring. But if the helper really steal the ring, she must have finger print there. if the helper is telling the truth that her umbrella was in the wrong place, then that umbrella can also be use for evidence that someone framed her.
Hahahaha mike foo… Good luck to his future girlfriend or wife then (well if he’s lucky to have one) I can’t imagine myself being tied to a man with that kind of mother.
What she did is still wrong. Sometimes, people will do something crazy just to protect their loved ones. People will do something stupid because of jealousy. I hope and pray that the case will be solve fairly.
You got a point there mike
ISA AQ SA NA BIKTIMA…HUHUHU
Release your house maid peacefully don’t ruined her life…and don’t let the employer to hire filipina maid again ban her!
