Eight Indonesian migrant workers were still unaccounted for when Malaysian authorities ended their search on Friday for those onboard a boat which capsized off the coast of Johor, Malaysia, on July 2.
The boat was traveling from Batam in Indonesia to Tanjung Penawar in Malaysia’s southern state of Johor when it went down, leaving 11 dead and eight missing, The Jakarta Post reported.
The boat was believed to be carrying 44 illegal immigrants.
According to Budi Cahyadi, the head of the National Search and Rescue Agency in Tanjung Pinang in Indonesia, Malaysia’s Search and Rescue team ended the search but will continue to patrol the waters.
Cahdyadi added that Indonesian authorities did not conduct a search as the incident happened in Malaysian territory.
