A video of a man claiming to be a policeman and threatening to arrest a group of Filipinos for drinking at a barbecue area in Pasir Ris Park during Singapore’s alcohol curfew has gone viral.
Many who watched the video online cast doubts about the man being a policeman and criticized him for threatening to arrest the Filipino domestic workers. According to Singapore law, it is illegal to drink in a public place between 10:30pm and 7:00am.
The video on the Facebook page of SGchineseclub went viral after it was posted on June 19, attracting more than 48,000 views and nearly 600 shares, Lianhe Wanbao (Singapore) reported.
At the start of the video, one of the maids told the man they never do anything wrong, prompting the man dressed in a black cap and black T-shirt to start lecturing them. The man claimed to be a police officer and said he could put them in jail simply because they had spoken to him in an impolite manner.
He went on to say that they were lucky because that day was Hari Raya and he would have arrested them if it was any other day. The man continued to harass them and claimed they were misbehaving. The exchanges were all captured on video.
People who watched the video claimed that if the man was impersonating a police officer he should be the one arrested and thrown in jail. People also said the way he spoke was offensive and discriminated against foreign domestic workers.
