The bodies of two Indonesian migrant workers who died in a deliberately lit fire in Taiwan have finally been sent home thanks to two charity funds.
The two, who died in an arson attack in New Taipei City, Taiwan, in November last year, were sent home on June 7.
On November 22, 2017, a Taiwanese man set fire to an apartment in Zhonghe District in New Taipei City causing nine deaths, including the Indonesian woman named Nurmah and the Indonesian man named Bongjun On, China Times reported.
The Social Welfare Department of New Taipei City learned about the two victims’ families and the fact they had financial difficulties. As a result, Cheng Hsin Foundation and Cheng Hui Foundation promised to donate a combined sum of NT$350,000 (US$11,742) to cover the cost of transporting and burying the bodies.
The two families expressed their gratitude to the two charities on June 7 via the the Indonesian Economic and Trade Office to Taipei for sending their loved ones home to East Lampung Regency of Lampung, Sumatra in Indonesia.
