A 17-year-old Filipino girl failed in a recent attempt to travel to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia using fake identity documents.

Jaime Morente, immigration commissioner, said on Thursday that the young Filipina was intercepted at Ninoy Aquino International Airport after it was discovered that she had assumed the identity of an older woman, Manila Times reported.

The young Filipina’s identity was kept under wraps for her own protection.

According to Marc Red Mariñas, immigration OIC associate commissioner and port operations chief, the young Filipina was a victim of a syndicate known to be falsifying overseas employment certificates and faking identities.

Mariñas said several victims were recently stopped from leaving the Philippines after warnings were issued by the Philippines Overseas Employment Administration and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.

Last week, a 20-year-old Filipina headed for Dubai was caught presenting false travel documents stating that she was a 25-year-old overseas worker.
