A 48-year-old man has been charged with murder in a Malaysian magistrate’s court in Melaka on Thursday after allegedly knocking down and killing a 40-year-old Indonesian woman in his car early this month and could face the death penalty if found guilty.
Shamshuri Mohamad, a car rental operator, ran over and killed a woman named Yuliana while driving his Perodua Myvi near Dataran 1Malaysia Klebang between 11.20am and 1pm on June 4, China Press reported.
The Indonesian woman was reportedly a permanent resident in Malaysia and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Mohamad was arrested and charged with one count of murder.
No plea was taken from the accused as the case is under the jurisdiction of the High Court and the magistrate has scheduled it for Feb 21, 2019, for mention.
Meanwhile, the accused was not allowed bail by the court. If found guilty under Section 302 of the Malaysian Penal Code, he faces a death sentence or imprisonment for life and a fine.
