Three Nepalese men denied charges of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm at the High Court in Hong Kong on Wednesday after gang violence that prompted police to open fire and injure two men in Kowloon’s Jordan district in 2016.
Three defendants, 24-year-old Pun Binod, 30-year-old Rai Yogendra and 20-year-old Pun Soul, pleaded not guilty, while another defendant, Pun Mahendra, admitted his guilt, the Oriental Daily reported.
The victim of their alleged attack, a 33-year-old Indian man named Gurung Vishal who is a part-time construction site worker, told the court that on October 2, 2016, he was attacked by a gang armed with machetes at the intersection of Nanking Street and Parkes Street in Yau Ma Tei.
He ran but fell down and men with machetes and beer bottles attacked him. Three police officers approached seconds later, yelling at the attackers to drop their weapons. However, they continued their attack and the officers fired four shots at them.
The attack was captured by surveillance cameras and an onlooker uploaded a video to social media.
Neither the victim nor police officers could not identify the second and the third defendants during the identification process, but their figures and outfits matched with the surveillance camera footage, Sing Pao reported.
