A 24-year-old maid from Myanmar was jailed for 10 weeks by a Singapore court on Tuesday after pleading guilty to biting a six-month-old infant on his cheek and earlobe because she could not bear his constant crying in December last year.
The maid, Mya Pwint Phyu, faced one count of violating the Children and Young Persons Act, Lianhe Zaobao (Singapore) reported.
The court heard that the maid was alone with her 37-year-old employer’s six-month-old son at an apartment on Lakeside Drive in the afternoon of December 28, 2017.
While the maid was cleaning the room, the infant boy started crying and she stopped and tried to comfort him, but he kept crying. She then allegedly bit him on the cheek once and on his earlobe once, but the two bites made the infant cry even louder.
Shortly afterwards, the baby’s grandfather visited the house and confronted the maid after finding bite marks and bruises on the infant’s face. The maid admitted what she had done.
The baby’s father was alerted by the grandfather and he filed a report to police straight away.
