Two Indonesian men were arrested by the Police Coast Guard (PCG) late on Monday night for attempting to enter Singapore illegally on a wooden craft.
At 10:30pm on May 21, the two men were sighted by officers heading towards Singapore in the waters south of Marina South Pier, according to a joint statement published on Tuesday by the police and Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA), Lianhe Zaobao (Singapore) reported.
By 11:51pm the pair were intercepted and arrested by the ICA and PCG for unlawful entry into Singapore. The two men were aged between 25 and 31 and were identified as Indonesian nationals.
If convicted of illegal entry under the Singapore’s Immigration Act, they could could face jail terms of up to six months and receive a minimum of three strokes of the cane.
